Elle Ponders A Void...

Hello Lovelies,

We recently had the preppy boyfriend's sister and her boyfriend in town for a visit. It was wonderful to have family in town and to spend some time getting to know her boyfriend. But, now that the guests are gone, my house is clean, and I'm killing time in the afternoon.... there's a sort of void. Rooms that were once full and conversations that were floating on the air are now empty and their is silence.

I know parents feel some of this when children head off to college, but I'm wondering... does anyone else feel this when the guests leave?

I guess it's the psychology major in me, but I find myself wanting to analyze this feeling... what is it telling me about my current situation? Am I lonely and I just don't realize it? Or is my life too busy and having time to spend with loved ones is reminding me how shallow this busyness makes me feel? Or does everyone have this odd mixture of nostalgia and and emptyness when house guests leave.... What do ya'll think?

In the meantime, you may remember that one of the things on my list of things to do before moving was to take a picture of the giant Agave plants in Texas... That was accomplished this weekend! How darling is the preppy boyfriends sister with her boyfriend. I'm telling ya'll the girl looks better in sweats and a t-shirt than I do straight out of the beauty salon in a gown! :)

What Preppy Wore Wednesday :

Blue Tunic - Blush purchased at TJ Maxx Spring 2009 - yes my hair sucks, and I'm looking up and no I don't know what is so interesting on the ceiling! :)
White Chinos - J. Crew Fall 2009
Silver Shoes - Gadzooks (Now Forever 21) Fall 2007 - I know pointy toe shoes are on their way out, and I know silver shoes and white pants... not a great look.. I normally wear this with black leggings but it was too hot in Austin to rock black leggings today.
Kenneth Cole Watch - Gift Fall 2006
Shell and Blue Bead Earrings - Local Boutique Winter 2008 - I bought these earrings to give as a gift to one of my girlfriends in Austin, they all have birthdays a month apart, but then I realized since I hadn't given the other girls gifts (I barely knew them when their birthdays came around), I couldn't give this girl a gift... I would have felt badly... so instead I kept them for myself! :)
Sunburst Ring - Phoenix Boutique Fall 2009

When you get some ground to plant it in, we will hook you up with these giant agaves. We have four huge one's and 96 babies from last year growing in the greenhouse.
Century plants. They bloom once in 100 years, and the blooms is taller than a two story house, and once it blooms the plant dies. I have seen two blooms in my life amazing. Look it up online. We even have variegated century plants with green and yellow striped ponds. Don't let one poke you though, ouch, makes you sick!

I love your shirt!

And wow - that agave plant is crazy!

As for the guest thing... I think there's a special pleasure that comes from having guests. And I think that pleasure is, in part, due to the fact that it's a finite visit.

There's the anticipation of the visit, the busy-ness of getting ready, the joy of hosting, the delight of spending time with people you don't get to see often, and then that little let-down once they're gone.

Thank you for stopping by my blog for Pink & Green Thursday and I’m so glad that I found your blog, because I love it! I’m following you now.

I definitely get that sense of loneliness when houseguests leave (and I’ve got a husband and 2 dogs). I think I get so caught up with the hustle and bustle of company being over that when they leave, it feels sad for a day or two. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I get where you’re coming from.

Thank you for sharing these photos. That agave plant is huge! I love your outfit too. The white chinos paired with the blue top looks fantastic. I also love the ring and earrings. You’re stunning!

I remember the semester I roomed with 6 girls in the sorority house. If I came home from class and everyone was gone, I was instantly depressed! You'd think I'd be thrilled for the peace and quiet, but I wasn't.

I love being surrounded by people I love and enjoy. That's probably why I have all these kids! Keep things hoppin'!

I know what you mean, Elle ... there's a big void when company leaves - especially if the company consists of people you really, really love!

On a happier note, those shoes are amazing! Can't wait to see tomorrow's post :)

After having family and friends around I always think, "Why am I not living like this daily?" I"m too busy and tired and that's no way to live. Starting this summer, I'm making a pledge to myself to live some and not work all the time. Your pics are so cute. Keep em coming and thanks for stopping by RHS. I really appreciate it. So glad to find your blog. I'll be back soon.

Hey there gorgeous! How are you this week sweet Elle? I MISS YOU!! You look amazing, once again another fabulous outfit, I am dying over those shoes, wish we lived closer so we could share closets!! Your hair looks incredible too. I seriously popped over here to say hi, took one look at your glowing hair and promptly called my sylist for an appointment tomorrow. I forgot I was way overdue!! :)

I totally know the lonely feeling when houseguests leave...Matt and I are pretty much always on our own since both of our families live far away, and outside of seeing friends or having another couple over for dinner, etc. we get SO EXCITED when we have overnight guests. I get all OCD about it and turn this place into a veritable B&B, it's so fun though. So nice that you got to spend some time with PBF's sister and her BF...I am sure you were the hostess with the mostess! xox Love you Elle!
