Definitely call someone in the second and third year's class and ask which ones are most useful. $800 should be more than enough to pay for books. I studied more from class notes anyway. I didn't use the books a ton anyway.Aubreyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07821592360402715054noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-603957883122218278.post-47717349555237847722010-07-06T12:21:33.595-05:002010-07-06T12:21:33.595-05:00You definitely do NOT need all of the books. I'd suggest finding a second year and asking them for help narrowing down your list.

And definitely buy used books... and then sell the ones you don't want at the end of the year. You probably won't need them for Step 1 anyway - there are great review books out there that you can buy separately, with lots of high-yield info.

I know how very expensive medical school is. At my school, we have a mentor program for the new incoming 1st years, and luckily my mentor told me which books were worth buying and needed and which were not. Unfortunately, the only people that can really help you is other students at your school, since every school is different. But I can assure you, you won't "need" all 37.Allyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03751945535977745285noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-603957883122218278.post-45731831980084336612010-07-05T15:50:20.895-05:002010-07-05T15:50:20.895-05:00Oh my word - my jaw actually dropped when I read t...Oh my word - my jaw actually dropped when I read that number. Also, does your schhol library (or another one near yours) have any of the books for your to borrow? Sometimes you can do long-term check outs. Or is it possible to share with another student? I have no idea if any of that is practical but it seems the must be a way around that many books. Or can you email indiv profs to ask what you really need the first few weeks. Your situations can't be so unique that this is the first time it came up. About 5 were actually needed. If they put required then the military will pay for them without question for those military people ... which is why at our school they do that. Before you have a heart attack ... see if some of them are on reserve at the library or talk to a second year student about which ones to actually buy ... because you probably don't actually need to buy them all!Janehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12996804670882312289noreply@blogger.com
